A downtown Toronto high rise has become the first in town to attain the LEED® Platinum Certification. Cadillac Fairview Corporation, owner of the TD Centre Tower at 100 Wellington Street recently announced the LEED® Platinum Certification under the Existing Buildings: Operations and Maintenance program in a press release.
The LEED Certification follows an international set of standards for environmental sustainability in building design and maintenance and is administered by a third party. Indoor air quality is one of the areas that it looks at and in that category, the certification process examines several factors:
- Smoking prohibited within 25 feet of any doors or air intake
- Use of environmentally friendly cleaning products and supplies
- Any areas under construction are kept apart from occupied areas and when the work is done, fresh air is pumped through the areas before regular use
- Annual air quality testing, with action taken right away on any areas of concern
Cadillac Fairview is crediting a coherent building maintenance plan along with strong tenant engagement for its success.
At ESG, we can help you maintain optimal indoor air quality with testing for the following elements:
- Carbon monoxide or CO – the silent, deadly killer. We can test for levels your home alarm system can’t detect.
- Silica – a fine dust and designated substance under the Occupational Health and Safety Act which is often produced during construction, demolition or renovations
- VOCs or Volatile Organic Compounds that can evaporate into the air and which can come from household cleaning products, building products and others
- HVAC Systems – your heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems can become a major source of contaminants in your home
The air you breathe is essential to good health for you and your family. Let us give you peace of mind – call the Environmental Services Group for a quote.
