Mold, and mold growth are everywhere. Mold growth is nature’s way of breaking down carbon and carbon based substrates in the environment. So now you may find yourself asking: “If mold is everywhere, why does it matter if there is mold in my home or office?”

The answer is simple. Mold can make you sick.

What is Mold?

Mold is a living organism that comes in many shapes, sizes and species. There are many areas of your home that are susceptible to indoor mold growth:

  • Drywall
  • Wood
  • Cabinetry
  • Carpet, Carpet Pad and Carpet Tack
  • All other cellulose based materials

Mold can grow in as little as 24-48 hours under ideal conditions – “ideal” meaning anywhere that moisture can linger. It could be as simple as a pinhole sized drip from a water pipe in a wall or ceiling cavity that affects drywall. If you don’t even notice this leak, it could affect the reverse side of drywall where limited air flow is available to dry it out. Mold can and most often does begin to grow inside walls, under floors and in other areas where you won’t see it.

With the wet and unpredictable weather conditions we experience in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), mold is an ever present possibility.

Toxic Black Mold

Toxic Black Mold has been popularized in the media. Its scientific name is Stachybotrys Chartarum (mostly referred to as just Stachybotrys). It’s actually most often seen as greenish-black and may cause the same symptoms mentioned below.

Signs of Mold Growth

Since mold often develops behind walls, under flooring, in your attic or basement, a tell-tale and persistent musty odour may be your only clue to its existence in your home. You may also notice a number of health symptoms that you can’t otherwise explain such as:

  • Respiratory symptoms such as worsening allergies, asthma, bleeding lungs, breathing difficulties
  • Colds, recurring and with decreased resistance to infection
  • Persistent coughing
  • Flu symptoms
  • Itching of the nose, mouth, eyes, throat, skin, or any area

In extreme cases and depending on your own susceptibility, it may even involve serious issues like central nervous system problems, hemorrhagic pneumonitis and more.

Residential & Commercial Mold Inspection, Testing and Removal Services

Mold can grow regardless of the home’s age, new or old. If you suspect the presence of mold in your home, we can offer a range of services to help.

Our services include:

  • Bulk Sampling for a concise indication of the types of mold growth
  • Air sampling to determine the concentration of airborne mold spores in a particular area.
